A motion simulator aims to reproduce the physical sensation of movement you experience when you sit in a moving vehicle. Beware of manufacturers utilizing existing large-payload motion platforms to form the basis of 'ad-hoc' personal motion systems. These platforms are usually extremely heavy and very power-hungry, having originally been intended to move far greater payloads - they are geared for brute force power rather than high speed & realism. As a result, they are hugely over-specified and less suitable for the task at hand, and above all very expensive; Because of this, other important factors pertaining to rigidity, realism and adjustability are compromised to allow these manufacturers to keep their prices competitive. In particular cheap, heavy materials such as MDF or welded steel (instead of lightweight yet strong aluminium) are commonly used to form upper table structures supporting the user and/or system components, presenting the following problems:-
